One long moment
The images for this exhibition are from places travelled to before the lockdowns due to COVID-19. A number of the images are of the Botanic gardens in South Australia. Gardens feature highly in this exhibition. I think in part as a direct response to the COVID lockdowns. I became very conscious of how much nature can sustain us when our movements become so restricted and human contact is limited. I am lucky because my house has a garden and I have views of a tree lined street out of the windows.
Something else that happened as a direct result of the lockdowns was the slowing down of life on a daily basis and feeling less time pressure. These paintings are more complex compositionally. They contain more colours and greater detail. They took longer to paint than any other work over the last few years.
