Cover-Up takes its name from Dickens’ latest series, a powerful collection of twelve mixed media collages highlighting the ‘writing out’ of Indigenous peoples from libraries full of Australian published books, and systemic promotion of a prevailing singular white-world view through the recording and ‘binding’ of these incomplete chronicles.
Created from found objects—sourced from vintage stores, rubbish tips and auctions, Dickens' assemblages reflect a society founded on falsified history and colonial fantasy, and a culture ignorant to its own bias and racism.
